is the word 'diary' better than the word 'blog'? probably not.

Vegas, Superheroes, Food, Movies.

Vegas, Superheroes, Food, Movies.

The superhero party was fun. As you might have predicted, many of the women showed up in fabulous costumes, and many of the men did not. Now, I know many exceedingly amazing, nay, exceptional men. But I ought to say thanks, once again, for the truly exceptional group of women I know. Evany, Heidi, Caroleen, Marilyn, Emma, Gayle and Adrienne all looked fabulous. Dusty wore a cape. And Leisa, Sunny, Amy S and CASH showed up, all decked out with rhyming identities. Cash looked smashing as The Titanium Cranium, while his hot mom Leisa went hot-for-teacher style as The Invincible Principal. Many people were happy to be slapped by her ruler. I've got some great photos, but my scanner is in Amherst so you'll have to wait until later for a sampling. However, I can give you a glimpse of some capes, courtesy of Evany Thomas.

My favorite quotes from the evening both come from Marco:
"I am worried about the streets of San Francisco tonight, because all the superheros are here!"
(About Gayle's amazing corseted costume): "She makes everyone into a criminal, and then she apprehends them!"

My 20-hour stint in Las Vegas with David-from-LA was fun, too. We took a gondola ride at the Venetian. He rode the bull at Gilley's at the Frontier, then he made me two-step, even though I don't know how to. We went to an oxygen bar at Treasure Island. We ate lots of overpriced food at Bouchon, and consumed a lot of champagne. The next day I realized that one of the restaurants in the casino served the amazing chocolate cake that Gayle and I once had in Chicago, and then Evany and I also ate while we were in Chicago. So we went there, too.

I went straight from my flight from Las Vegas to 12 Galaxies, where Waycross was performing. It was a great show, and lots of my friends were there, so it was a great welcome back to San Francisco.

The morning after the superhero party Sunny, Leisa, Cash, Marilyn, Heidi, Amy and I had a very long brunch at Foreign Cinema. Because Sunny used to work there we got lots of free stuff, including some really good champagne. I had some berry infused French toast, champagne, a truffle omelet and some fried potatoes, some more champagne, and then a dish of vanilla and chocolate ice creams with espresso poured over the top. We had to stay there for all those hours so we could digest the food and then eat more.

Evany, Liz, Ivan and I went to see The Aviator on Monday night. It was pretty good. At the very least it kept me fully entertained such that I didn't notice that it was three hours long. I haven't seen any movies during my time in Amherst, and I am looking forward to eating a lot of popcorn in the dark over the holidays.

Last night I hung out with Sunny and we watched Dodgeball, then a few episodes of the reality show with the fashion designers competing. It was engrossing enough for me to lift my self-declared ban on reality television.

Tonight Trip and Greg are taking me out to Restaurant Michael Mina at the St Francis, which promises to be both fun and yummy. Tomorrow I bake an almond-pear tart and then it's off to Dad's for Christmas Eve, and Mom's for Christmas. Colleen's out of town so I will be rolling in her Saturn, with the bumpersticker that says "Horses: See Awesome!". I'm looking forward to giving out some gifts, getting some gifts, eating some food, and then laying around on couches watching rented movies with my mom and sister.

After Christmas it is CRACKDOWN time. I have to read things and write things and get proposals ready for possible jobs. I have a few possible job interviews and a couple of initial phone interviews lined up. So I am going to try to update the diary every day with book reports and thinkery and the like. You may or may not enjoy that. I may or may not live up to it.
