i am against sawing dogs in half.
the other night, gus and i were sitting around watching tv, when a newscaster came on the air and said, "police are looking for a suspect who sawed a dog in half, details at 11." gus and i just sat there with shocked looks on our faces. also, for some reason the cat also had a shocked look on his face, like maybe he understands english. that's right, an event so gruesome that it is communicated across the divide between cats and humans!
also funny: as gus, thurgood and i sat on the couch, looking shocked, i said to the cat, who had once again shit on the floor and then attacked gus earlier that day: "thurgood, i just got a great idea!"
even funnier: right after i said that, thurgood got up and ran out of the room and up the stairs really quickly.
anyway, when 11pm rolled around gus said he did not want to watch that news story and turned off the tv. i did not object.
but then i could not stop thinking about the news story, because, hell, WHO SAWS A DOG IN HALF?! so i googled it (yes, we must resign ourselves to a world where google is a verb, a verb that has nothing to do with eyes glued on stuffed animals). turns out, "sawed in half" is not entirely accurate. apparently a crazy guy kidnapped someone's beloved siberian husky and then removed its legs and head from its body. then crazy guy left the legs and head on the front porch of one of his neighbors whom he apparently does not like.
i don't like that story at all.
siberian huskies are beloved! they are fluffy and beautiful gentle giants. i know because a colleague of mine has one and she (the husky) comes and visits me in my office every day. she even dressed like a squirrel for halloween!
i am against sawing dogs in half.

I, too. have no desire to read about dog dismemberment. I was, however, compelled to google "squirrel costume for dogs" to find a photo. Funny!
